Doris M. Sprague
Doris M. Sprague, 91, of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the Abraham House of Rome. She was born on November 23, 1933, in Rome, N.Y., a daughter of the late Samuel and Alice Armstrong O’Dell. Doris was a graduate of Westmoreland High School and member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church. On November 28, 1953, Doris was united in marriage to Gordon H. Sprague, this blessed union lasted 65 years, until Gordons passing on August 11, 2018. For over 25 years Doris was employed as a payroll and finance specialist at Griffiss Air Force Base until her retirement. Doris was a member of the Leather Stocking Artist and Gal’s Club.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Gordon Jeffrey and Patty Sprague, Jamie Sprague all of Westmoreland; a daughter, Melissa Sprague (Eric Bunal) of Rome; two grandchildren, Heather (Frank) Lekki, Cory (Christa) Sprague; four great grandchildren, Jaxon and Frankie Lekki, Kinley and Kayden Sprague and nieces, nephews and cousins she loved dearly; special caregivers, Lily, Edna, Liza, Debbie and Bonnie. Doris was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Meacham and a niece Lori Meacham.
Doris loved animals, loved to paint, route for the NY Yankees, bake apple pies and cherry cream pies and watch and feed the birds. She was a selfless and loving mother and did anything for anyone.
Doris’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Abraham House of Rome and Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford, especially Debbie and Heather for the wonderful care and support which they provided to Doris and her family. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4 to 7 P.M. at Owens -Pavlot and Rogers Funeral Service 35 College Clinton N.Y. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, at 10 A.M. at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church 7286 W. Main Street, Westmoreland, N.Y. Interment will take place in Westmoreland Cemetery.
