Obituary of Elisabeth N. Crouch

My brothers and I announce with sadness that our mother, Elisabeth Nickerson Crouch, passed away on July 5, 2025, and is now reunited with our father, Martin Crouch, Sr.

She was born on March 5, 1933, in Medford, MA, the youngest daughter of Chauncey and Anna (Hawkes) Nickerson. She met the love of her life at a USO in Boston MA while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy in 1956. They married on August 10, 1957, while he was still serving his country. After he finished his service they returned to his hometown in Clinton, NY. They resided there until 1997, after which they relocated to Cape Cod, where they stayed for seven years.  After Dad passed away in 2004, Mom returned to New York. She had been a devoted wife for 47 years.

Elisabeth was a homemaker and was avid about sewing and painting. She was always sewing, whether it was her children’s school clothes, dolls, or a variety of Christmas gifts that her children still have today. She had a passion for painting with watercolors, and her artwork is displayed in the homes of each of her family members. She was a cookie baker and best known for her chocolate chips cookies that she baked for our dad their entire marriage.

After her children started school, she worked at Hayes National Bank (now NBT Bank) and later as a tax collector for The Village of Clinton.

She lived independently until the age of 89, at which time she chose to stop handling household responsibilities like cooking and cleaning, and relocated to live with her daughter. She resided with her daughter for two years, after which transitioning to an assisted living facility more appropriately met her needs.

Elisabeth is survived by her children: her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Sonny Jones of Sherburne, NY; her sons, Martin Crouch Jr. and his partner Maud Low of South Deerfield, MA; and Daryl and Lisa Crouch of Deerfield, NY.

Her grandchildren include Kellie Wilson and her husband Brian, along with great-granddaughter Kenslie (Hampton, Virginia); Danielle Crouch and her husband Maxim Brade (Munich, Germany); Lindsay Crouch (Washington, D.C.); Sierra Crouch (Deerfield, New York); and Ian Crouch (Cincinnati, Ohio).

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services are scheduled to be held on August 15, 2025, at 11 AM at Sunset Hill Cemetery on the Terrace of the Maple. All are welcome to attend.   A family celebration of life will be held at a later date in Cape Cod.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Deli Rogers, a childhood neighbor, of the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton, NY, who we will be forever grateful for her support and caring throughout this process.
