Obituary of John E. Boor

John Emil Boor, 83, passed away, with his family by his side on July 2, 2025, at Wynn Hospital. 

He was born March 6, 1942, in Newark, NJ, a son of the late John L.  and Ann (Zelko) Boor.  John graduated from Herkimer High School Class of 1959 and served his country in the United States Navy from 1960-1964.  He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Stark on May 22, 1965 at St. James Episcopal Church.  They shared a union of love and devotion until Carol’s passing on February 6, 2021. John worked for Bendix, Chicago Pneumatic and Remington Arms for many years.  In 1999, John proudly received his Associates Degree from Herkimer County Community College, after being laid off from Remington Arms. 

John was a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376.  He was a devoted NY sports fan, following the Yankees, Giants and the Rangers.  He had been a referee for the local high school hockey games.  John shared his love for sports with his family and loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in their activities. 

He will be missed by his son, Lawrence Boor of AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Steve Franchell of New Hartford; his grandchildren, Lawrence Boor, Jr., Haley Franchell and Joseph Franchell; two great-grandchildren, Carmine and Rocco Boor; his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and John Evers of AZ; step-sisters, Debbie Schlagel of Rome and Diane Testa of Utica; and many nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Carol, and his parents. 

Private services will be held for the family. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Memorial Park.  Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service. 

The family thanks the nurses and staff at Wynn Hospital for the excellent care given to John, especially Lisa, Stephanie and Sofia on the ICU.
