Obituary of Irene Blunt
Irene Blunt, 85, of New York Mills, passed away on March 22, 2025, at the Abraham House in Utica, surrounded by the love of her devoted sons.
Irene was born in Poland on May 21, 1939, the daughter of John and Mary (Tabor) Bochenek. She came to America in 1950. Irene met Richard Blunt at New York Mills High School and he became her lifelong sweetheart. They were married October 11, 1960 until his passing on November 30, 2024. They were a hard-working couple who worked side-by-side on the farm. For 18 years, they ran a farm stand and sold their harvest at the farmer’s market. Irene worked for the Boston Store and Montgomery Ward, rising to the position of Department Manager for the children’s and jewelry departments. Irene was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren made her so proud! Her heart was filled with compassion and love for her family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted sons, William and Lori Blunt of New Hartford and Bob and Mary Blunt of Deansboro; her beloved grandchildren, Brandyn and Beth Blunt, Cody Blunt, Monica Blunt and Tyler Hubbard, and Lucas Blunt; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Logan, Carson, Benjamin, Gavin, Raelynn, and Asher.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother and her husband.
There will be no public services. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Irene’s memory to Hospice & Palliative Care or the Abraham House of Utica.
The family thanks Alicia, Tianna and Irene from Hospice for their friendship and the exceptional care shown to their mother, as well as all the staff at Abraham House in Utica who made her final days more comfortable.
