Aunt Doris was equally loving and light hearted with her husband Roger. Seen here dancing at my sister Cathy’s wedding in ‘83. I can still hear her………say his name…….she split it into two very distinct syllables…..the second said a full octave higher than the first. Doted on more than he needed, Doris was very loving.

Here we are! Doris’s girls Debra and Diane and my sister, Cathy, and I! Celebrating her grandson’s wedding. Here is a rare photo of Doris without a smile. Do you think maybe us four ridiculously giggly ladies have finally worn her out!? Never! Aunt Doris was loving that we were altogether.

The Roger and Doris Smith family, sometime in the mid 1960’s. Each summer, mom and Doris would make sure that the 4 girls spent time together each summer. Often via a 5 hour Grey Hound bus trip. First in Toronto taking in the Canadian National Exhibition, then on to the family home outside of Toronto for fun in the sun, sand and water! Doris was fastidious about Debbie’s fair skin, but in those days we all sun burned daily. Those were halcyon days. Aunt Doris was always smiling and laughing and spreading genuine love in our direction. Life for kids is tough what with bullies, strict scary teachers, and other horrors, but Aunt Doris could be counted on for tenderness and understanding. She loved us like we were her own kids.

What a beautiful bride and handsome couple on their wedding day! Our mom and dad, Carol and Richard Pollard on each end of the bridal party were thrilled to participate. Mom loaned Doris her wedding gown. Mom and Aunt Doris called one another “ sister”. That is how close they felt despite the many miles between them over the years.

Here is a young Doris Hall, Christmas ‘54, prior to her October ‘55 wedding. Always a warm inviting smile.
