Dear Terry and family,
I was so saddened to read of your beloved husband's death. You built a beautiful life together in your family. The best advice I received when Gary passed was to just take one day at a time. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Hal through my parents. They were involved in his Tough Love group. Hal helped them, help me through my teens. I wish I had a chance to tell him, before he passed, how instrumental he was in my life. He has a very compassionate heart and a dedicated, loyal spirit. I know Hal must have been greeted by so many grateful families when he made it to the gates of heaven

Our deepest condolences.
We knew Hal first as parents, then second, for me, Darlene as a colleague (I taught in the Elementary School). Hal was everything he is said to be; kind, caring, generous, dedicated, and he did have a special camaraderie with his students.
Our son, Stephen, is in Georgia now, this is what he had to say when he heard of this sad news. "He was encouraging and a good spiritual role mode. He will be missed. He was someone who made you believe in yourself."
As parents, we were very thankful and grateful for all the time and support he gave to Stephen both academically and spiritually. We will never forget the time when he stayed way past dinner time so Stephen could finish his regent exam. That's dedication!
Love and prayers,
The Lee family, Gary & Darlene, and Stephen

Hal was a special man. I am honored to say that he was my good friend. Not only did he go out of his way for students but for his fellow teachers as well. I know. I was one of them. Rest well, my friend. You have earned your place in Heaven.

I am so sad to hear that Mr. Goldfine has left the earth. What a special man he was! A man of love, gentleness, acceptance, and Truth. I remember he always started class with a greeting of "Happy Tuesday!" (or whatever the day was). He always told us he loved us and even though it made us snicker, we knew he meant it and deep down we appreciated it. He also daily said, "Are there any questions or comments?" and if we wanted to talk about something other than what was in his lesson plans that day, he was ok with that. My sister reminded me this morning of the candy sticks he kept in his pocket to hand out to students. He not only cared for us, but he showed us how to care for each other. I remember being a part of the Peer Counseling Group that he over saw called "Friend to Friend." He and Miss Facchini took us on our Senior Trip to Washington DC. That is one of my favorite high school memories! Lisa Griffin and I wrote a song about him and shared it at some sort of Academy Night. He came to my graduation party and gave me a pair of tube socks, which was an inside joke. I remember when Mrs. Goldfine was pregnant with their son and how proud he was of that. He was one of a kind, and I wish I could have a chance to tell him how much I appreciated all that he invested in us at SVCS. But for now, it's enough that his family knows. With tears in my eyes, I wish you heartfelt condolences. Sincerely, Ann (Parow) Mackey Class of '92

Hal will be greatly missed. I had the pleasure to work with him for many years at Sauquoit Valley. He was a kind and gentle man who always saw the best in everyone. He had a special talent for making connections with students, and letting them know how much he cared about their personal success as well as their academics.
