James D. "Chipper" Jones, 73, of Meadow St., passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 with his loving family by his side.
He was born February 27, 1936 in Utica, a son of the late Henry and Alice Coughlin Jones. Chipper graduated from UFA in the class of '54. On January 20, 1962, he was united in marriage to Christine "Tina" Kennedy. They were happily married for 45 years until Tina's death December 23, 2007. He retired from Special Metals in 1984, where he was secretary/treasurer of the union and a member of the retirees club. Chipper was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Polam Fish & Game Club, past member of Clinton Fire Dept and a devoted fan of the NY Rangers, LA Dodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jones family spent many memorable years at their camp on Hyde Lake. Chipper was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, three daughters and their spouses, Tim and Elizabeth Jones of Waterville, Sandra Morgan of Oriskany Falls, Michele Jones-Keach of Clinton and Deborah and Bill Foote of Westmoreland; his ten beloved grandchildren, Scott, Curtis and Jean Morgan, Jamie, Brandy and Glenn Keach, James and Jessica Foote and Kevin and Brendan Jones; a great-granddaughter, Ariella Christine; eleven brothers, sisters and their spouses, Tom and Anna of Fort Wayne, IN, Bill and Sandie of Damariscotta, ME, Elizabeth Gray of Utica, Alice Thomas of Garden City, SC, Patricia Wadman of Utica, Clark of Utica, Henry of Oriskany Falls, John and Chris of Yorkville, Dave and Diane of Old Forge, Doug and Linda of CT, Jeff and Sharon of Utica; his in-laws, Geraldine and Jacob Hallmark of CA, Richard and Sharon Kennedy of Rome, Terrance Kennedy of New Hartford, Paul and Karen Kennedy of Utica; and many nieces and nephews who will sadly miss their Uncle Chipper and many good friends and relatives. He is now reunited with his wife, Tina and the relatives who went before him.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30am Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-8pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton.
