I am very sorry for the loss that the family and friends of Steve James will endure. Steve was my customer and friend for 35 years. Well, not all 35. He didn’t make it easy at first, me being a sales person often bugging him. I was intimidated by his vast knowledge of an industry for which Steve was a significant player. I was a greenhorn hoping to learn from Steve. And as that happened my advances grew to an understanding and then, a friendship. Steve talked about family a lot. It was clearly his priority. II hope his family may be strong in this difficult time. Steve James was a wonderful, fun. Interesting, and unique man for whom I feel privileged to have known and will never forget.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Steve 2x, the first of which was at a Joe Russo's Almost Dead concert at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester NY in 2019. I was immediately struck by his spirit, his authenticity, and his storytelling. His love for the music and the fellowship was clear. That night the band opened with a a particularly rowdy "Shakedown Street". At one point I looked over at Steve and I could see him checking his watch and it was obvious he was tracking the duration of the jam. By the end of the night I realized he had recorded both sets and the encore citing various nuances and the length of each tune. I thought to myself "man this guy is a real Head". And he absolutely was and so much more. It is rare in this life that you can meet a person for such a brief encounter and yet they can have such a profound impact on you. For me...Steve was one of those rare souls, and I can only imagine how his family and friends are feeling. May God bless you and keep you in these challenging days ahead and provide peace knowing that Steve lived life well and left a legacy most of us only dream of leaving behind. "Going home, going home/ by the water-side I will rest my bones"

I was a classmate of Steve’s at Denison University. I sang with him in the concert choir and participated with him in other musical and theater events at Denison.
