Obituary of Peter Barber
Peter J. Barber, 67, passed away Tuesday April 18, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born December 10, 1949 in Utica, NY, the son of Raymond and Rose (Schafer) Barber. On August 19, 1972 he was united in marriage to Darlene Merriman. They raised two children and have resided in Westmoreland for the last thirty years. Peter was employed at Hamilton College with the Physical Plant. He was of the Catholic faith.
Fondly known as "Moey" by his family, he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and sharing his silly riddles and rhymes with his beloved grandsons, nieces and nephews. He was funny, smart, and kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Darlene (Merriman); a son Peter J. Barber and partner Bryan Drummond of Westmoreland; a daughter and son-in-law Shannon and James Mathewson of Holland Patent; three beloved and cherished grandsons David James, Sean William, and Lucas Eugene; five brothers, Raymond Barber of PA, Robert Barber of Anchorage, AK, Paul Barber of Rochester, Richard Barber of Syracuse and Gene and Michele Barber of Yorkville; a sister, Meredith Salisbury; and several special in-laws, nieces and nephews. He held a special place in his heart for nephews Joseph Testa and Matthew Barber. He was predeceased by brothers Roy and William and sister Ruth.
All are invited to call Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Prayer Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 9:15 am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am at St. Mary's Church, 13 Marvin Street, Clinton. His burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Westmoreland. Please consider contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care.
