Obituary of Velma "Betsy" O'Neill

Velma "Betsy" O'Neill, 96, a longtime resident of Skinner Road, passed away on October 21, 2016. She was born in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of Clinton and Velma (Griffin) Beach. On December 29, 1941 she was united in marriage to Charles E. O'Neill. The couple shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2007. Betsy graduated from Syracuse University and was an art teacher for the Rome City Schools for many years. Betsy enjoyed working in her garden and was an accomplished painter. Her art work showed her love of nature and captured the beauty of her surroundings. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Murray of Florida; her son Mark O'Neill of Virginia; a granddaughter Sherry Quinones and her husband Michael of North Carolina; and four great-grandchildren, Selina, Alysia, Michael and Ava. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother William Beach and her husband. All are invited to call Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 1-2pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. A graveside service will follow at Kirkland Cemetery after the visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413. The family is grateful for the staff at Brookdale and the private nurses who took wonderful care of Betsy.
